PROBLEM

You are unable to add users in the GFI FaxMaker configuration and you get any of the following errors:

When the GFI FaxMaker configuration is launched, the following error message is displayed:‘The amount of licensed FaxMaker users could not be calculated since there are users / groups which are unresolved. You will not be able to add any new FaxMaker user/groups before you unregister these users / groups.’

The following error is displayed when you click on the ‘New licensed user/group’ link in the GFI FaxMaker configuration > ‘Licensed Users’ section: 'No more users / groups can be registered before the total number of licensed FaxMaker users is established.’
A user/group specified in the ‘Licensed Users’ is displayed by the user’s Security Identifier (SID) value and not the Username. The icon next to the user/group will show a question mark.

Note: The SID is a unique alphanumeric character string which is assigned to each user by the Domain Controller.

SOLUTION

1. Open the GFI FaxMaker configuration. You may encounter the error messages described above
2. Click on the ‘Licensed Users’ node
3. Right click on the user/group which is displayed only by its SID and select ‘Delete’
4. Click ‘Ok’ to unregister the user
5. Close and re-open the GFI FaxMaker configuration.  It may also be necessary to restart the GFI FaxMaker Services

CAUSE

The issue occurs when a user or group is deleted from the Active Directory domain, however the user / group is not removed from the GFI FaxMaker configuration.
