  3. Inside the Spelling folder, you will see one or more folders depending on the languages you have installed on Windows 10. Double-click the folder that corresponds to your language (e.g., en-US for English).
  4. Double-click the default.dic file to open with Notepad.

Note: These instructions will only edit the custom dictionary on Windows 10. Other apps, such as those from Office and Google Chrome, use their own dictionary.

macOS

  1. Launch Finder.

  2. Navigate to the following folder:

    ~/Library/Spelling

  3. You will see a “LocalDictionary” file here. Open it in TextEdit by Ctrl-clicking or right-clicking it, pointing to “Open With,” and selecting “TextEdit.”

  4. You will see a list of words here. If you have never added any custom words to your local dictionary, you will see an empty file. Every word appears on its line.

  5. To remove words from your dictionary, delete them from the list here. You can delete the entire list to clear your entire dictionary or delete specific words to remove them. Ensure any words left in the file appear on their own lines.

  6. When you are done, click the “File” menu and select “Save.”

Validation

The typo in the custom dictionary has been corrected.
