Reviewing Logs

If there are no direct errors presented during the installation in spite of a failed process, please follow the steps below.

  1. Gather the installation logs.
Please review the article, "How do I get the installer log for MailEssentials?" for more information on the process.
  2. Open the installation logs with a text editor.
  3. Perform a search for Return Value 3.
    • Review the lines before Return Value 3 to determine the reason for the failure.
    • If Return Value 3 is not found, search for Error.
Please keep in mind that not every match for the Error keyword is a failure. Continue searching for it until you locate the full error message.
  4. Once you find the error code, check the Common Installation Errors list.
    • If there is a match, follow the instructions in the related article.
    • If the error is not found in the list, proceed with the next step.
  5. Note down the code of the error that you found in the installation logs.
The errors found in the installation logs have error codes, such as "Error 1920". These error codes have a direct reference to the Windows System Error Codes.
  6. Review the Windows System Error Codes and locate the error code that you noted down to have more information on the installation failure.
