'Attempted to Read or Write Protected Memory' Error When Performing a Search

Overview

Users receive the following error message when trying to perform a search:

Attempted to read or write protected memory

Environment

MailArchiver version 6 and 2011.

Root Cause

Errors in the disk can lead to memory errors when the physical memory is full and the system tries to read the memory from the disk.

Resolution

  1. Defragment the disk.
  2. Use the ScanDisk command to search and fix errors on the disk.
