Overview
- When troubleshooting problems with XCAPI and GFI FaxMaker, a fax test helps to verify if the XCAPI device is properly configured for the intended media gateway.
- GFI Support may request users to perform this test and share results for further troubleshooting on their case.
- This article shares the process of performing this fax test using XCAPI Test Tool.
Process
Follow these steps to do a fax test using XCAPI Test Tool:

Stop the GFI FaxMaker services.

Open the XCAPI configuration from the All Programs listing.

Select 'View', then select 'Expert F8'.

Under the Configuration tab, click Trace.

Under the Options tab, configure the following:

Trace type: Trace into file

Trace file: intended path where the trace file will be generated

Click the 'Apply' button.

Start a Wireshark capture.

Open the XCAPI XTest Tool from the All Programs listing.

Select 'Fax Call' and enter a valid fax number, then Click 'Send Fax'.

Collect the XCAPI trace file generated (specified path in Step 5 above) and a Wireshark trace of the attempted call.

Provide these files when opening a case with the GFI Support Team.
Uploading Files on GFI FTP Portal
If the trace files collected exceed 4MB or are too large to send, users may upload them to the GFI FTP Server using the details below:
- Host: ftp://ftp.gfisoftware.com
- User: gfi
- Pass: gfi911cust
