Overview

When facing problems with XCAPI and GFI FaxMaker, it is essential to make a test using the XCAPI Tool to verify that the device is configured correctly for the intended media gateway. This article provides information on creating an XCAPI trace file. It also draws your attention towards the sources that might help you read and interpret the logs you gathered.

Process

1. Stop the GFI FaxMaker services.
   1. Right-click on My Computer.
   2. Click Manage (as administrator).
   3. Click Services and Applications at the bottom of the left pane.
   4. In the middle pane, click Services.
   5. Right-click each FaxMaker service, and click Stop.
2. To access the XCAPI Configuration, go to Start > Programs > XCAPI > XCAPI Configuration.
3. To turn the expert view on, choose View, then select Expert. You can use the keyboard shortcut F8 as an alternative.
    
   
    
4. Under the Configuration tab, click Trace.
5. Go to the Options tab and configure the following:
   • Trace type: Choose trace into the file.
   • Trace file: Designate the path where the trace file will be generated.
6. Click Apply.
   
   
    
7. Start a Wireshark capture. For additional instructions, refer to Using Wireshark to capture network traffic for FaxMaker. 
8. Open the XCAPI XTest tool from the All Programs menu.
9. Choose Fax Call and enter a valid fax number, then click send fax.
10. Collect the generated XCAPI trace file from the path specified in step 5.
11. Collect the Wireshark trace of the attempted call.
12. Provide the trace files along with:
    • The exact time the test was performed.
    • The number sending From and To.
    • IP address of the sending server.
13. Restart the FaxMaker services that were stopped in step 1.
