Overview

This article describes the issue and its resolution when trying to add an archive store or a journal mailbox in the User Interface; you may see the following error:
"Request for principal permission failed"

Environment

• GFI Archiver
• Windows Server 2008 or newer

Root Cause

To protect the file and folder structure hosted on the server, specific permissions are applied. Even if the logged in user has the required permissions, User Account Control (UAC) abides by the security policy defined by Microsoft, and even if the authenticated user has the required permissions, the default security policy will be applied.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, perform any one of the following:

• Run Internet Explorer in Elevated mode (Right-Click on Internet Explorer, and select Run as Administrator).
• Disable User Account Control and restart the server.
